Selected Planar Patents

We hold the following technology patents and have several additional patents pending in the U.S. and worldwide for a variety of projection display technologies.

Screen Holding Mechanism

A screen holding mechanism for multiscreen displays which provides a significantly small boundary between the display devices while allowing for differing expansion and contraction rates of the screen and Fresnel lens. The screen holding mechanism substantially lessens the likelihood of the screen or the Fresnel lens from becoming detached from the screen assembly.

Aspheric Lens for Uniform Brightness

A centrifugal illumination lens that diverts some of the illumination from the center of the lens the brightest point and forces it out to achieve greater brightness uniformity across a single display from center to edge. In doing this, the lens also enables greater uniform brightness across multiple displays.

Color Gamut and Luminance Matching System for Liquid Crystal Displays

This patent specifically covers the techniques associated with our Color Edge product enhancement. It provides the technology for using a color space converter in order to pre-calibrate a display to a known set of color coordinates, assuring simple and precisely accurate color balancing of a digital video wall. Also describes the method to improve and match colors along a preset gamma for ideal video and data display in a matrixed display system.

Color and Luminance Control System

Our proprietary method for providing color balance between adjacent displays. The control system allows balance between unique gamma curves, enabling a fuller color balance along the entire color spectrum.

Fiber Optic Homogenizer

Used in projection displays, this technology can enable uniform brightness in a projection display, with minimal thickness.

Stairstep Interlock Mounting Package

A system that allows rear-projection displays to be positioned side-by-side and stacked to create as large a tiled image as desired. A set of interlocking mechanisms permits even the largest configuration to be installed with complete security and safety, along with greater ease and speed.
